Grief Recovery Support Group

Since we live in a grief-avoidance society, we find ourselves left feeling alone and perhaps even embarrassed or shamed by the fact that we continue to mourn the loss of a loved one. We are often told to “Iet it go and move on with life,” but we are filled with pain and view the world around us as something outside of ourselves…a place to which we can’t relate.

What is wrong? Why can’t we heal and get back to life the way it was? One reason is that life is different now and will never be the same. Though they may mean well and want to help, unwittingly, friends and family don’t know how to provide the loving support that we need to heal our pain.

Using a “Companioning Approach” devised by Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, nationally recognized leader in the field of Grief and Loss and Director of The Center For Loss and Life Transitions, participants in this Grief Recovery Support Group will be encouraged to move from Grief, which is left inside, to Mourning, which is bringing the pain out, so that healing can take place.

By doing the hard work of mourning, you can move from the pain and confusion of the wilderness into the light of life. It’s hard work, but you don’t need to do it alone..
