2010:Built on the Rock
“The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Matthew 7:25
Each year, Chapel pastors and leadership develop an annual ministry theme that serves as the basis for the Sunday messages. The Annual Ministry Theme is also incorporated into many other ministry areas throughout the year.
2010 Ministry Theme: Built on the Rock
Rocks are at the center of some of the most striking imagery in the Bible. They are a refuge, figuratively and literally. God is our rock and our fortress, the rock of our salvation, the rock of our strength, and our rock of protection. Jesus Christ Himself is the cornerstone of faith upon which the Church is built. In 2010, God’s Word will be our guide to experiencing the security, strength, and shelter that come from building our lives upon the Rock Himself.
Lenten Sermon Series: Surviving the Storms
Many of us have called out to Jesus in desperation, “Lord, Rescue me!” During the season of Lent, we will look at Gospel accounts of real men and women who were in the midst of one of life’s storms. These men and women responded to their storms by becoming mad, sad, or bad. Jesus’ presence in their lives ultimately allowed them to end up glad. Their stories will inspire us to discover how God can calm the raging storms in our lives and give us peace and joy through the power of the Resurrection.
Current Sermon Series: Relationships on the Rock
How do two houses built of the same construction on the same coastline at the same time end up in two very different conditions when the first storm hits? Matthew 7:27 says the difference is the two foundations upon which they were built. When a new house is built on a rock, the builder bores deep into the rock and sinks steel and cement into the holes to fuse the house and rock together. The only way a house will withstand heavy storms is if the rock and the house are joined as one. During the season of Mother’s Day to Father’s Day, our series, Relationships on the Rock, will explore the teachings of Jesus to see how the key relationships in our lives are ultimately built on our bond with Jesus. The series will cover My Relationship with My Spouse, My Family, My Church, My Community, My Enemies and My Stuff.
Discovering Christ in the Old Testament
Imagine someone ripped the entire New Testament out of your Bible. Could you still find Jesus Christ in the pages that remained? During the late summer and fall months we will dig into the Old Testament to uncover the person of Jesus Christ in prophecy, imagery, allegory, foreshadowing and other literary devices that were intended to prepare the hearts of God’s people for His physical arrival. The famous British pastor, Charles H. Spurgeon, correctly said, “The Old Testament was Christ’s Bible, and it is a Bible full of Christ.”
